THE POSITION

Internal:                          Senior Leadership Team consists of SHARED SERVICES: CFO, Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Sourcing and Supply Chain Officer. DIRECT REPORTS: HR, Quality, Environment & Management Systems, Sales and Marketing, Engineering and Program Management, Supply Chain and Customer Service, Production and Facilities

External:                         Customers, Union 

THE CONTEXT

The long-time and highly respected President is retiring once the successor has been identified and onboarded with the organization. During their tenure, the current President has overseen impressive growth, both organically and through acquisition, in this extremely competitive manufacturing business sector which has resulted in ‘best ever’ financial results, despite economic turndowns, and COVID-19.

The incumbent has been diligent and proactive in devising strategies that have resulted in positive business outcomes. They have been directly involved in customer development and have overseen a continuum of major capital projects that were undertaken to refresh, revitalize, and expand the company’s growth.  

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are seeking an experienced, sales/customer-oriented leader who has profitably led a production unit, business or division, in a highly competitive design and manufacturing industry with a concentrated (automotive) and demanding customer base.

It is critical that our successful candidate has experience growing a business through effective manufacturing efficiency programs, as well as sustaining profitable growth through focused customer orientation and operations management.

They will have broad-based general management experience, be strong both strategically, sales and operationally experienced, and will be confident enough to operate independently AND yet will know when to actively seek counsel from the divisional CEO, their executive team and key stakeholders.

It is essential that the individual be comfortable and capable of operating in an environment where competitive pressure and annual revenue and growth of earnings are the norm. To that end, he/she must understand the importance of developing and sustaining profitable and long-term customer relationships in a competitive market.

The incumbent must be a strong team leader/builder with the executive presence necessary to inspire confidence in the employees, the executive team and customers. Their leadership style should be one of active listening and engagement with the employees, working with them as a team and always treating them with respect and dignity.

To this end our successful candidate must have:

  • Industrial background – preferably in the automotive, automotive supplier (and given these are key customer be able to speak their language) and/or aerospace industries

  • Strong production experience and knowledge of Lean manufacturing

  • Experience being accountable and owning/growing a P&L

  • Strong financial acumen in a $100M+ business with demonstrated ability to develop, articulate and defend decisions supported by quantitative and qualitative facts

  • Mediation experience

  • Matrix organization experience is ideal

  • Engineering University Degree preferred

  • Experience working in a publicly traded organization is preferred

  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Black Belt training

THE COMPENSATION

Competitive salary and annual merit-based bonus plan incentive, four weeks vacation, life and health insurance benefits and a matching RRSP plan and car allowance
